  • Charles Darwin Goes to School

    In 1825 at the age of 16, Charles Darwin was sent to the University of Edinburgh by his father to study medicine. While this did not end up working out for Darwin, he did get introduced to natural history. He studied zoology under Robert Grant which sparked his interest in science and animals. Ted Davis.   • Charles Darwin goes to Cambrdge

    After a failed attempt at medical school, Darwin decided to attend Cambridge university where he continued his education in natural sciences. He graduated in 1831.
  • Charles Darwin Explores the World

    After graduating from Cambridge, Charles Darwin began exploring the world for knowledge. His most notable destination was the Galapagos islands. He landed on the island in September of 1835. Darwin had an interest in evolution and used the island and its animals to test his theories of evolution.
  • On the Origin of Species

    In 1859, Charles Darwin published his most famous work, On the Origin of Species. In this work, Darwin proposed that a variety of features of the biological world could be explained due to their evolution from a single common ancestor which evolved over time through natural selection. This new theory of evolution was highly controversial but also scientifically groundbreaking.
