An English geologist, and biologist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. His proposition that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors is widely accepted. His theory of evolution had three main components:that variation occurred randomly among members of a species;that an individual’s traits could be inherited by its progeny;and that struggle for existence would allow only those with favorable traits to survive.
  • Thomas Kuhn

American historian of science noted for The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, one of the most influential works of history and philosophy written in the 20th century. He questioned the traditional conception of scientific progress as a gradual, cumulative acquisition of knowledge based on rationally chosen experimental frameworks. Instead, he argued that the paradigm determines the kinds of experiments scientists perform, the types of questions they ask, and the problems they consider important.
