    Edinburgh University
Darwin enrolls to the University to study medicine. What happens in the following year is believed to be what motivated him to study the world of natural science.

    Plinian Society
He joined the Plinian Society, a group that would hold meetings in an underground room to discuss and read papers on natural science and natural history. Here he met Robert Grant, a marine biologist. Darwin helped Grant with his studies on marine life and it is believed that this work had a great influence on Darwin’s thinking. I would believe this is what sparked him into a passion towards the world of natural science.
  • The Voyage

    The Voyage
He set sail on the “Beagle” sailing multiple destinations spread around Australia, the Pacific Islands and South America within the span of five years. A very important voyage for history, science and the theory of evolution. As the ship’s naturalist, he collected evidence such as specimens and taking notes from various observations. These various observations would help him develop his theory of natural selection.

    Rough Draft
Darwin wrote a sketch of evolutionary theory. You can see how his ideas develop and form in the pages, brainstorming, key terms. In this sketch you can view the first time he records the words “natural selection”.
  • His life's work

    His life's work
Following the publication of “On the Origin of Species” which took nearly 20 years to finish, gathering evidence and information. He revolutionized the world’s view regarding life on Earth. This study deeply shaped most of the biological and philosophical thought to come. Given his analysis of animals and plants made him question how species form and change over time. He explains how life could modify and adapt to various environments. He became the architect of the “Theory of Evolution”.
