A new beginning
Charles Darwin was born on February 12th, 1809 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He was a English naturalist whose scientific theory of evolution by natural selection became the foundation of modern evolutionary studies. -
Theory Of Evolution
Darwin's Theory of Evolution is the notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor. Darwin's theory presumes the development of life from non life and stresses a purely naturalistic "descent with modification". The theory suggests that as random genetic mutations occur within an organism, the beneficial mutations are preserved because they aid survival a process known as "natural selection." -
Contributions to Science
Darwin founded a new branch of life science, evolutionary biology. He had four very important contributions to evolutionary biology which were the non constancy of species, the notion of branching evolution, that evolution was a teleological march toward greater perfection and lastly that evolution must be gradual, with no major breaks or discontinuities. These four insights served as the foundation for Darwin's founding of a new branch of the philosophy of science. -
Darwin's Late Life and End
Darwin continued his research during the 1840s and 1850s, publishing three more books during the 1840s and several more books in the 1870s.Though he became ill a few years later, he continued his research into his idea of evolution. Darwin died at Down House on April 19, 1882, at age 73. By the time he died, Darwin had become a national figure and was considered one of the greatest scientists of all time.
