Birth & Education
Charles Darwin was born on February 12'th 1809 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He was the fifth of six children and was the grandson to two abolitionist figure heads, on both his mother and fathers side of the family. He began his educational career as an apprentice doctor to his father prior to attending the University of Edinburgh Medical School. He didn't find medical studies interesting and eventually branched out and met some students who challenged the views of standard religious practice. -
Natural Selection
Early 1856, Darwin began to expand on his research into his theory of natural selection and how it played into the various species he was referencing in his studies and how they changed over time from location to location. -
On the Origin of Species
On November 22nd 1859, Darwin finally published the work of his life. Titled "On the Origin of Species", with 1,250 copies pushed out to booksellers, it turned out to be a massively popular. This book was the first of its kind and paved the way for people to follow in Darwins footsteps. Darwin commented on common descent, and tried to include his evidence of homology between humans and other mammals. Darwins book soared, but he kept to himself due to continuous illness's throughout his years. -
Death & Legacy
On April 19th 1882, Darwin passed away at his "Down House" which is where he would work in his gardens and perfect his work on natural selection and eventually the theory of evolution. After his passing his work continued to inspire scientists, as it was the first big set of work that made people believe his theories on human evolution. Eventually Darwins work was used to establish a basis for natural selection being the foundation for human evolution. -
