In 1831, Charles Darwin received an invitation to join the H.M.S Beagle as the ship's naturalist to travel around the world. Darwin called this voyage "by far the most important event in my life". It is later the base for his book "The Voyage of the Beagle" which helps establish him fame and respect. This voyage helped Darwin establish his views on the fluidity of species and record large amounts of scientific data concerning the biology, geology and anthropology of the areas he traveled.

On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection
Charles Darwin published his book "On the Origin of Species" or by its full name "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life". This work of scientific literature is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. In this book, Darwin proposed natural selection as a scientifically testable mechanism which led it to be both refuted and excepted by peers given their own observations.

    Huxley vs. Wilberforce
After the presentation of a paper by John William Draper on the intellectual development of Europe with relation to Darwin's theory, a heated debate broke out, predominantly by Henry Huxley and Samuel Wilberforce. It is one of the early clashes between science and religion and started to shape the future of these debates. It is also regarded as one of the key moments in the acceptance of evolution which to this day still helps us shape what we know about the living organisms around us.

The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex
Darwin publishes "The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex". The book applies evolutionary theory to human evolution and details his theory of sexual selection. The reception to this book was not well at first as it put a big wrench into what society had been accepted as an "origin story". His views of sexual selection were also opposed by his co-discoverer of natural selection who stated that most of what Darwin deemed as sexual selection was just natural selection in reality.
