Birth of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was born on February 12th, 1809 in the United Kingdom, Shrewsbury, in the Mount House. His mother Susannah Darwin a wealthy doctor and his father an english medical doctor who are both most well known for their son Charles Darwin. -
Charles Darwin begins at university
In October 1825 Charles Darwin at the age of 16 and his brother Erasmus enrolled at the University of Edinburgh to study medicine which his father had arranged. Two years later Darwin became a student at Christ’s College in Cambridge, studying to become a priest. He graduated in 1831. Later that year he would be given an offer of a lifetime to join the HMS Beagle on a voyage across the world. -
Beagle Voyage
On December 27th, 1831 Charles Darwin joined Captain Fitzroy on the HMS Beagle on a worldwide voyage as his assistant. The most notable destination being the Galapagos Islands Darwin landed on in 1835. There he discovered the different species of birds were all the same type of finches. On the Origin of Species
After Charles Darwin returned from his five year long voyage, he spent decades continuing his research regarding the different variations on the same animals he witnessed on the Galapagos Islands. His findings and theory of evolution and ideas on natural selection were compiled together, becoming his most well known book, On the Origin of Species, published on November 24, 1859. -
The Descent of Man
In Charles Darwin's book the Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, Darwin made the argument that just as all other animals, humans evolved had gone through the same kind of evolution. He specifically made the point that humans shared the same common ancestor with great apes found in Africa. -
Death of Charles Darwin
With Darwin suffering from stomach problems and nausea throughout his life and after suffering a heart attack on Christmas day, followed by seizures, Charles Dawin died on April 19th, 1882 in his home, later to be buried in Westminster Abbey, London.
