Darwin left Peru and the voyage began to head in the direction of home when they stopped on the Galapagos Islands where Darwin was able to study iguanas and the giant tortoises. Despite what people think that is all Darwin did on the island. Some thought that is where he had his major breakthrough, which is not true. Darwin published the first abstract of his book On the Origin of the Species. People theorized why he did not publish right away.
