    Charles Robert Darwin was the fifth of six children born to Robert and Susannah Darwin, a wealthy family living in the town of Schrewsbury in Shropshire England.

    In September of 1818 Charles Darwin was enrolled in the Anglican Shrewsbury school. The school, lead by the reverend Samuel Butler. It was one of the original nine public school in England as defined by the Public Schools act of 1868.

    In 1825 Darwin was sent to the University of Edinburgh by his father to study medicine. However after some time Darwin found medicine not suited to him due to his fear of the sight of blood, and he found medical studies boring.

    Charles Darwin set out on Her Majesty's ship the Beagle under the command of Captain Fitz Roy from Devonport to complete the survey of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. As well as survey the shores of Chile, Peru, and some of the pacific islands.

    Charles Darwin read his first paper to the Geological Society of London arguing that the landmass of South American landmass was slowly rising. This happened on the same day that he presented his mammalian and avian findings and specimens to the Zoological Society of London.

    In May of 1842 Darwin published his first monograph, "The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs", which he wrote during his expedition on the Beagle. It outlined the growth and structure as well as relations between different types of corals and the role they play in their ecosystems.

    After receiving papers about natural selection from Alfred Russel Wallace, Darwin went to the Linnean Society of London and read papers from Wallace and his own works outlining his beliefs and finding about his theory of evolution.
  • Tendencies of Species

    August 20th of 1858 Darwin published his 'On the Tendency to form Varieties', After further collaboration with Wallace, Darwin published his paper outlining subspecies developing within individual species.
  • Origin of Species

    Charles Darwin's 'Origin of Species' was published and was incredibly popular. However it did not mention anything on human evolution other than that "light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history".
  • Descent of Man

    in 1871 Darwin published his book "Descent of man" which outlined the evolutionary theory as it applies to humankind and also briefly outlines sexual (natural) selection and its application to human evolution.
  • Doctorate of Law

    The University of Cambridge, after having finally accept Darwinism, awarded Darwin with an Honorary Doctorate of Law.
