  • Early life

Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England on February 12, 1809. Darwin was born into a very educated family who brought education on him very heavily. Darwin was very much interested in the sciences but it was considered dehumanizing at the time especially since he was going to an english public school. His father later sent him to study medicine at Edinburgh University. While at Edinburgh Darwin learned more about the sciences and pursued his passion in it.

    Beagle voyage
In 1831 Darwin went on the Beagle voyage across the world as a naturalist. It was his job on the voyage to study plants and animals wherever they went. Through this he noticed that there were many variations of plants and animals across the world. While in south America Darwin discovered fossils that he noticed were very similar to the plants and animals of today. This drove him to publish his theories of evolution when he returned home from his expedition.
  • On the Origin of Species

    On the Origin of Species
Darwin decided to publish his theories of natural selection and evolution in his book On the Origin of species. Darwin was not the first to make these theories but his ideas became widely accepted. Darwin only focused on the science aspects of his work instead of the theological and sociological aspects which made his ideas very different from others. His theories are still debated today among different groups.
