    Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12 1809, in Shrewsbury, England. Darwin was known to be fascinated with the natural world from a young age. He was an avid reader of nature books and loved to explore the outside world.
  • Charles Darwin Observes the Galapagos Islands

    Charles Darwin arrived on the Galapagos Islands in 1835. He began observing the species of animals and birds that were native to the islands. He began to make observations about the unique characteristics of the birds and other species living there. These observations would help him create his theory of evolution and natural selection.
  • Charles Darwin Publishes "On the Origin of Species"

    Charles Darwin had been observing and researching animal species for quite some time. He compiled all of his finings and his theories in his first book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life." The book immediately became a best seller but the ideas that it presented were widely disputed.
  • Charles Darwin Dies

    Charles Darwin died in his home at Down House in London. He passed away in the presence of his children and his wife. His presumed cause of death was a disease called coronary thrombosis which eventually lead to heart failure. He died at 73 years old.
