Voyage
Charles Darwin was seemingly always interested in nature, so he decided to go on a voyage on the HMS Beagle. While on this voyage, he would discover species that had different variations in their characteristics based on their location. This made Darwin suspect that these species changed due to their environment, which leads to his theory of natural selection. -
On the Origin of Species
20 years after his voyage, Darwin finally publishes his book about his theories of evolution by natural selection. Darwin used evidence that he collected from his voyage, as well as experimentation from his research and deliberation between colleagues in those 20 years. Darwin, Charles. On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. London: John Murray, 1859. -
The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex
Darwin's other well known piece is The Descent of Man. It's essentially his previous evolutionary theory, but applied to humans. Darwin argued that humans descended from other types of species, especially dogs, apes, and monkeys due to their loving, curious, and clever behavior. He also dove into "sexual selection" in which he explained that a "women's place in society was the result of nature." Darwin, Charles. The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. London: Jason Murray, 1871. -
Death
Darwin died in his home in London due to heart failure.
