Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. -
The Voyage
Darwin begins his 5 year journey to South America aboard the HMS Beagle. Due to all the downtime, Darwin begins to read and reflect more on the Principles of Geology and Transmutation. -
First Contact with Natives
Darwin made a comparison between the natives, which he saw them as savages, and the civilized human. Thinking that natives were still capable of improvement. Now he required a better explanation on how the human mind evolves. -
Galapagos Islands
Before arriving at the islands, Darwin saw fossils of creatures that were already extinct. He didn't developed the ideas of creatures evolving and adapting until he saw the difference among Galapagos species. A good example the mockingbirds. -
Publishing his voyage experience
Darwin publishes a journal about his 5 year trip. During this time Darwin began to formulate his ideas on how evolution happened. He decided to gather more information before going public. His journal's publication put him in the spotlight, grabbing the attention of many. -
"On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection"
Darwin publishes "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection"(Darwin,1859) drawing criticism from the Church but capturing the attention of many. One of the most important books ever written due to Darwin hinting that humans came from apes. Darwin will later on published updated editions of the book to make his theory stronger. -
"The Descent of Man"
Charles Darwin published another book "The Descent of Man"(Darwin, 1871). Before this book Darwin only hinted as Humans coming from apes. In this book Darwin focused only on Human Evolution. -
Death
Charles Darwin dies leaving behind his amazing work that changed the way we saw evolution and compared it to what the Church says.
