Teenage Years Into Adulthood
At the age of 16, Darwin went to the University of Edinburgh. After 2 years, he enrolled as a student at the Christ's College in Cambridge. Although his father wanted him to be a doctor, Darwin had his mind set on the destiny he knew he was sent for.
After graduating in 1831, Darwin joined the crew of the HMS Beagle on its voyage to the Galapagos Islands. There, he studied the indigenous, plants, animals, and the surrounding habitat and made numerous discoveries. -
Darwinism - The New Theory of Evolution
After his return to England, at the conclusion of analyzing and reviewing his findings, in 1859, Darwin came to the conclusion that all life evolves in the world through natural selection, or in other words, the species with the most adaptable traits will survive over the species that cannot adapt accordingly. This was named in his honor as Darwinism. He credited the Galapagos finches and their adaptive traits in helping him come up with the theory. -
The Descent of Man & Selection in Relation to Sex
In 1871, Darwin published, The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex, which promoted the theory that humans developed from apes, and were also a common descendant.
He also promoted the idea of the tree of life, that all life on Earth evolved from a common ancestor. -

End of a Productive Life
At the age of 73, Charles Darwin died of a heart attack at his house in England on April 19, 1882. The legacy he left helped shape the world of science leading to the field of genetics and helped for future scientists and newfound researchers understand the remarkable world of evolution and how our change is evident through time.
