  • The Beginning

    The Beginning
Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England to Robert Darwin and Susan Wedgewood. At eight years of age, Charles' mother passed away and he would then be raised by his three older sisters. His father would then send him away to Edinburgh University at the age of 16. It was here that Darwin would learn the basics in the sciences. Three years later, in 1828, his father switched him to Christ's College, Cambridge after realizing that Charles was not fit for the medical field.

A influential figure in his life, Reverend John Stevens Henslow, suggested that he go on a voyage to Tierra del Fuego and Charles jumped at the opportunity. Charles would join Captain Robert Fitzroy on the HMS Beagle as his companion on a voyage around the world. The HMS Beagle set sail from England on December 27, 1931. This voyage was the keystone event in Darwin's career.

    Travels
The voyage would take nearly five years and take Charles all across the world to countries from Tierra del Fuego, the Galapagos and Australia. During those five years, Darwin collected and observed bounds of information which would later on lead to him developing his theories on evolution and natural selection. The voyage came to an end, and he flew back to England in October 1836. Short video on Charles Darwin:
