Chapter 4 Timeline

  • French Indian War

    French were fighting the British over the Ohio River Valley. British win.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Marked the official end to the French and Indian war.
  • Stamp Act

    Placed a tax on a wide variety of legal documents and printed matter. Affected nearly every colonist.
  • Townshend Acts

    Included a new set od duties on such items as cloth, lead, glass, paper, tea. Was another attempt to tax the colonists.
  • Boston Massacre

    Angry street mob threw snowballs with rocsk in it at British soldiers. British get angry and started to shoot at the colonists. Colonist lives were lost. British soldiers were sent to jail, nut the colonists were still fired up.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Tax on tea rose and the colonists were mad. They dressed as Indians and threw 342 chests of tea into the harbor.
  • Lexington and Concord

    General Gage wanted to make a surprise attack to discover the hidden weapons. Colonists formed military units, stock piled weapons and set up communication networks. Paul revere warns colonist the British are coming. Shots fired. General Gage withdrew his troops.
  • Beginning of War

    British had been fighting for a year before delegates at the second continental congress signed the declaration.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Written by Thomas Jefferson to write a more thorough justification for independence.
  • Saratoga Battle

    2 battles threee weeks apart, british dig trenches and fail. Americans win both battles.
  • Yorktown Battle

    The Battle of Yorktown was the last great battle of the American Revolutionary War. It is where the British Army surrendered and the British government began to consider a peace treaty.
  • Independence gained

    Treaty of Paris was signed.
