It is a major English constitutional document, Sets out liberties that the king is prohibited from infrining upon. -
English Bill of Rights
Provisions set up my Parliament to prevent abuse of power by future monarchs. Also included right to fair trial, freedom from excessive bail and from cruel and unusual punishment. -
Albany Plan of union
Plan proposed by Benjamin Franklin. The plan proposed a congress of delegates from each of the 13 colonies. -
Boston Massacre
Event where British troops fired guns on a Boston Crowd. The troops killed a total of 5 people in the crowd. -
Boston Tea Party
To protest British control of tea trade, a large group of men broke on three tea ships in the Boston Harbor. They threw all of the tea into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress
This was a group of delegates from 12 of the colonies that met in Philadelphia. They met to discuss plans for protest against Britain's colonial policies. -
Second Continental Congress
Met in Philadelphia on May 10, 1775. The Congress included representatives from each of the 13 colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
Document that declared the original 13 colonies independent. It declared that they where no longer under british rule. -
Articles of Confederation
Approved on November 15, 1777. Established a firm league of friendship among the states. -
Shay's Rebellion
Named after Daniel Shay. it was an armed uprising that took place in Massachusetts. -
Virginia Plan
Presented on May 29, 1787. Called for new government with three seperate branches. -
New Jersey Plan
Retained the Congress of Confederation with each of the states equally represented. It also called for a federal executive of more than one person. -
Philadelphia Conventioan
Took place in Philadelphia, Pensylvania. Was held to take care of problems with governing the United States
