    The 13th amendment of the United States Constitution declared that, "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction," abolishing slavery and the slave trade. The decelaration set in motion a series of socially and historically significant events that have changed the trade industry.
