The colonists were happy to oblige until they realized Britain just wanted to win and needed no input from the colonist, just their obedience. The colonists realized this they were upset.     The colonies took their first steps to overthrowing their home government. Great Britain punished the colonist for rebelling the taxes by imposing more taxes and acts that became known as the Intolerable Acts of 1774. They formed the First Continental Congress to oppose royal authority.
