Cell Theory
-
Hooke
Hooke discovered honeycomb-like structure in a cork. He saw cell walls which was actually dead tissue. hook named this cell. Hooke found this out by slicing a cork open. He improved the cell theory by showing organism didn't form from spontaneous generation. -
Leeuwenhoek
Leeuwenhoek discovered that he was able to use a microscope to see microorganisms (bacteria). He discovered this by using a microscope. Leeuwenhoek improved the cell theory by showing that cells can be living. -
Brown
Brown was credited for discovering and describing te nucleus of a cell. He studied the aspect of plant life to come to his discovery. Brown improved the cell theory because he "found" tha te cell had an extra part to it the nucleus. He also found the difference between angiosperms and gymnosperms. -
Schwann
Schwann contributed the cell theory by saying all living things are composed of cells an cell products. His method was studying fermentation, and it improved the cell theory animal cells have a circular shape and plant cells have rectangular shape. -
Schieiden
Schieiden discovered (just like schwann) that all living things have cells. Schieiden's method was different because he studied the structure of a plant. He contributed to the cell theory by proving different parts of the plant organism are composed of different cells. -
Virchow
Virchow discovered cells arise from other cells rather than being formed by the action of life or crystallizing from oter matter. His method of discovery was studying pathological anatomy. Virchow contributed to the cell theory by proving that all cells asexually reproduce. -
