Bayardo arrives
page 25, six months before wedding he arrives. August 1950, Bayardo San Roman sees a girl named Angela with her mother. Bayardo instantly says what he wants which is to find someone to marry. He thought that Angela was love at first site but Angela didn't want him back secretly yet her mother made her because of Bayardo's wealth. He was liked and he was described, “They were well concealed because he had the waist of a bullfighter, golden eyes, and skin slowly roasted by saltpeter” (Marquez 25). -
Bayardo buys house that Angela wanted
page 36-37. Bayardo tries and tries to bribe Widower for the house to please Angela. This happens 4 months after being engaged and Bayardo wants to please Angela and buy whatever house she wants. "One night he asked me what house I liked best, Angela Vicario told me" (Marquez 35). -
Angela Vicario's wedding to Bayardo
Angela eventually ends up marrying Bayardo and they have a huge wedding which spans over 3 days. This wedding allows for many people to drink a lot of alcohol which can cause people to make bad decisions. This wedding is actually what could of caused for a death. Eventually Angela is dropped off by Santiago and Angela's mother beats her since Angela tells her secret that "she isn't a virgin". Later that night, Pedro asks who took her virginity and she says "Santiago Nasar" (Marquez 47). -
Santiago's murder
On a Monday (3). Santiago first wakes up at 5:30 in the morning, this day was special though because he wore white clothing which is unusual since he only wore it on special occasions. He leaves his house eventually out of a door he usually doesn't go out of and goes out, waiting near a milk shop are Pedro and Pablo Vicario. Which these two eventually end up killing him with knives. This plan that Pedro and Pablo come up with to kill Santiago is known through the town yet Santiago has no clue. -
Vicario Twins actions
Pedro and Pablo Vicario are told by Angela that Santiago took her virginity even though he definitely didn't.They lived two different lives(Marquez 53). Eventually, the Vicario Twins go out to look for him, they then go to a butcher to get their knives sharpened. The butcher then goes to the police, but the policemen just takes away their knives and says they bluffing but then they just go back home and grab two more knives. The twins main motivation was, "It was a matter of honor" (Marquez 49). -
Autopsy on Nasar
Days after the murder of Santiago Nasar, a autopsy is performed on him as there was zero fridges big enough to keep his body. The actual doctor happens to be out of town, and so Father Carmen Amador and a first year medical student perform it at a public school. Which makes the autopsy very messy, "It was as if we killed him all over again after he was dead" (Marquez 72). The autopsy describes the terrible brutal murder that occurred. He body is eventually buried. -
Santiago's blood
Santiago's body is put through an autopsy, and eventually many others, which include Pablo and Pedro feel like they smell like Santiago Nasar and that the town smells like him too. Which this saying of "smelling like him" could symbolize the people of the town having shame and blood on their hands for not warning Santiago. "Everything continued smelling of Santiago Nasar that day" (Marquez 78). -
Investigation on Murder
Eventually about 12 days after the death of Santiago, the magistrate arrives. He is confused as he is told that Santiago and Angela never had any relationship and she never makes a statement on where or when it happened when he "took her virginity." Santiago was with Cristo Bedoya, and as the were walking and a guy named Yamil Shaium warned Santiago that he would die. Cristo then went to talk to Yamil and Santiago continued walking home to change and eat breakfast with the narrators daughter. -
Investigation on Murder Pt. 2
Cristo ran to find Santiago at his house after talking with Yamil. He couldn't find him and grabbed a gun before searching more. He then runs into the police officer or tells him that he took their knives, Cristo realizes that they had got new ones. Pablo says, "We're going to kill Santiago Nasar" (Marquez 52). "Their reputation as good people was so well founded that no one paid any attention to them"(Marquez 52). -
Vicario Twins goes to the cell
After three years of the death of Santiago Nasar, Pedro and Pablo are brought in for a court trail. They were in jail for 3 years and admitted to the crime which they said they did due to honor. Honor places a major role in their decision as well as being drunk for 3 days before that. -
The Vicario brothers are released from prison in Riohacha
chapter 3. Pablo becomes a goldsmith and Pablo goes into the army. "Pablo Vicario, who learned to work with precious metals in his father's shop and came to be an elegant goldsmith. Pedro Vicario, without love or a job, reenlisted in the armed forces three years later, earned his first sergeant stripes, and one fine morning his patrol went into guerilla territory singing whorehouse songs and was never heard of again" (Marquez 83). -
Pedro Vicario goes missing on patrol
Pedro goes missing on patrol and no one knows where he has gone to. -
Angela's lost it
Angela eventually becomes obsessed with Bayardo after seeing him once again after their split and falls in love with him even though he has no contact with her. Over 17 years, Angela writes around 2000 letters to Bayardo and not once does he respond. She is stuck on the past and misses what she missed out on and is addicted to chasing him which makes her crazy about him (90-93). In August, he comes back holding a stack of all the letters and says " Well, here I am" (Marquez 95). -
narrator's POV
Through the story, Santiago first wakes up and has a weird dream to start the day, and Santiago then talks to his mother about the weather and different memories with the weather. These different keys all symbolize and lead up to the death of Santiago, the bishop arriving and having Santiago out of the house, the letter warning Santiago that he never saw. This all occurs because Angela lies about Santiago taking her virginity and the brothers take it upon themselves to avenge their sister. -
Narrator's POV Pt.2
The Vicario twins want to avenge their sister for honor and it's really what drives them to kill Santiago. The unluckiness of the doctor not being in town and the missing puzzle pieces to the murder and who ACTUALLY took Angela's virginity. "For the immense majority of people there was only one victim: Bayardo San Roman" (Marquez 83).
