    The Missouri Compromise was an issue to resolve the conflict of slavery. There needed to be a balance in the amount of free and slave states. Henry Clay was the driving force behind this compromise, he pushed for this to be accepted. During this, Maine became a free state and Missouri became a slave state. By doing this, they contained the balance of power in Congress by the north and south. Without balance, one side of power will always get what they want.

    the wilmot proviso involved David wilmot and the newly acquired Mexican states. it took place in the year 1846 and was a start to the civil war. David wilmot wanted to ban slavery in the newly acquired Mexican states. It was an unsecusseful proposal and a major leading event to the civil war. the event took place in the newly acquired Mexican states. this event took place because David wilmot wanted to keep slavery to a minimum.

    The Fugitive Slave act was brought into congress as part of the compromise of 1850. It allowed for slave owners to go to the north and capture there escaped slaves. This event took place in the north. this event took place because these bills helped the southern succession. This impacted slavery because the slaves were taken back into slavery and the confederates started seceding. This was part of the compromise of 1850.

    This Compromise involving Henry Clay was a series of 5 laws passed. The first law was the south getting their slaves back from the north (Fugitive Slave Act). The second is allowing California to be a free state. Next, they wanted to be able to enforce the fugitive slave act, and popular sovereignty in Utah, and New Mexico. Last they wanted the abolition of the slave trade and federal assumptions of Texas debt. In all, California was a free state and slaves were now going back into slavery.

    uncle toms cabin was a book written in 1852 by a women named Harriet Beecher Stowe. Harriet wrote a novel about abolishing slavery and gave the free people the idea to abolish it. this book caught a lot of attention. people were changing their views on slavery. Harriet wrote this book to demonstrate the sides of slavery the north wasn't seeing.

    Kansas Nebraska act/Bleeding Kansas
    Bleeding Kansas involves Stephen Douglass and Franklin Pierce. In this act, states were allowed popular sovereignty on what they think of the act on slavery as a free or slave state. Although this allowed for the people to decide, many northerners and southern fled in the states to vote when they don't live in that state. This then revised the Missouri Compromise to prohibit slavery north. This caused many conflicts which grew closer to the civil war.

    Dred scott was a free African american living in the united states in the year 1857. he was taken into slavery because of the fugitive slave act. he sued for his freedom and the supreme court of the u.s ruled against him. this event showed the south that slavery was not going to be abolished and our leaders believed in slavery. After this case blacks were denied with no citizenship. This even makes slavery illegal in all states.

    Lincoln Douglass Debates
    This event involves Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass. They battled in seven debates in Illinois. They argued over the issues of slavery and the opposing sides on which they fall. These battles were dividing for senate race. The union has never seen as tense of a battle as this debate was. This showed how they persevered between these two candidates and what side they supported. In the end, Douglass won the debates and Lincoln lost.
  • John Browns Raid

    John Browns Raid
    This raid leaves a mark on John Brown and U.S history. Brown led an abolitionist attack on Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. He attacked them with his five sons in hope for other slaves to rebel against there masters and the united states arsenal. None of the slaves rebelled and Brown's sons died fighting with him. John was captured and sentenced to death by hanging. This left a bad mark on the abolitionist movement because it made it look like these abolitionists were killers.

    Abraham Lincoln was ruining for office in 1860. he was the only candidate against slavery and was on some of the ballets in the south. Once Lincoln won the south seceded because his presidency was threatening their slavery. This event showed the south would do anything for their slaves. Even more states seceded and Lincolns job was to regain the union.

    there were many problems between the south and north. the biggest was the issue of slavery. the south was seceding from the union in 1861 April 12 the fully seceded. the north was threatening to take away slavery and the south didn't like this so they seceded. they became the southern confederacy and started the war. They bombed for Sumter which started the civil war.
