    Kansas wanted to enter the union so they had to do an election. People from Missouri illegally came and voted for proslavery. As a result Kansas had a proslavery legislature
  • Dred Scott decison

    Dred Scott was sued for his freedom. He fought for his right to be a free slave since he lived in a free state. He decided to take his argument to court but was sadly denied and was sent back to the south. The court stated that since dred scotts was not free based on his residence, also African Americans were not considered citizens
  • Attack on harpers ferry

    Attack on harpers ferry
    John brown decided to inspire his slaves to fight for freedom. So they decided to capture the arsenal of the army base in harpers ferry. His mission failed and they were captured. Abolisinist saluted john brown as he was put to death and issues had rises over slavery
  • The election of 1860

    In this election Abraham Lincoln won, he said he would nothing to abolish slavery but the south didn't trust him
  • The nullification crisis

    Due to passing the tariff laws states didn't like it so Vice President john callhoun said states could nullify it and take it to court. South Carolina tired to but failed and wanted to secede from the US.

    The law was passed the act was passed to prevent slaves from coming to the north and if any slave was fled to the north and was captured was sent back to the south
  • Compromise of 1850

    After the war of Mexico, tensions grew in the congress because they need to decide if the states were free or slave states. They decided that California was free and congress could not pass laws to ban slavery to make it even.
  • Missouri compromise

    As the growth of slavery moves west causing concerns. Hebert clay said that Maine would be a free state and arkansas would be a slave state to even it up. Then they came up with the Missouri compromise with balanced the free and slave states
