    Efforts were made to balance the free states against the slave states. Many people were still made that the "fix" to the problem wasn't good enough because it still left slavery to be considered okay.

    The Mexican war ended with The States being mostly victorious. Now the tensions rose with new state territories throwing off the balance of the free states and the slave states, the North and South fighting continued.

    After the law went into action tension between the two sides only grew greater. The people in the South enjoyed the law, the people North not so much. This law also caused the underground railroad become popularized.

    This book on slavery led to the Civil War by causing peoples opinions on slavery to change or become heightened. Harriet Stowe, the author had the goal to write about how horrible slavery really was.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This act gave Kansas and Nebraska the freedom to choose if the were Slave States of Free States. This caused more tension leading to the civil war, would there still be an equal amount of Free vs. Slave states was the big debate.

    Brooks attacks Sumner
    Sumner made an anti-slavery speech that caused Brooks to get upset. Brooks took offense to the speech at attacked Sumner with a cane, beating him over the head with it. He was then arrested and bailed out. This was an act of violence that was unnecessary.

    After the ruling of a slave who lived in a free state was not able to get or fight for his freedom went against him things got worse. People who were against slavery grew even more heated towards the people who did agree.

    When proslavery citizens tried to make a law where free black men could not live in Kansas it was denied.

    John Brown raids Harper’s Ferry
    When Brown tried to initiate the slaves into joining in on the raid, he was defeated and captured by the U.S. military and put on trial.

     The Election of Abraham Lincoln
    The election of Lincoln led to advancements of war being fought. Regardless of how he felt about slavery he felt that he should fight. Some of the choices he made led to advancements in war.
