    Nat turner’s slave rebellion caused 55 to 65 white citizens being killed in Southampton County, Virginia during August 1831. Nat Turner’s rebellion was effectively suppressed after a few days and he was executed after hiding for more than 2 months. Nat Turner’s slave revolt was the first and the biggest slave revolt in the United States. It caused Virginia congress to restrict the rights of free African Americans and slaves. It increased the tension between North and South.

    The Liberator was an American Abolitionist newspaper published by William Lloyd Garrison since 1831. William argued that slavery was guilty and injustice. A lot of people started to be afraid of African Americans in the Northern anti-slavery states after Nat Turner’s slave revolt. Garrison resolved the people’s fear by declaring that Nat Turner’s act is justified. Garrison ended the Liberator in the end of 1865 at the time the slavery was abolished. It increased tension between North and South.

    William Proviso was an American law proposed by David Wilmot to ban the slavery of the American territory that were acquired from Mexico. William Provise was first proposed to the House of Representatives on August 8th, 1846. It passed the House of Representatives but failed the House of Senates, because the South had more representation in the house of Senates. It failed passing the House of Senates at the second time in 1847. It increased the tension between North and South.

    Underground Railroad was the way that the slaves used to escape from the slavery states which happened during the early and middle age of 19th century. The slaves who wanted to be free would be helped and supported by the abolitionists to escape the plantation by travelling from one station to another station. Underground Railroad helped about 100,000 slaves to escape by 1850. It increased the tension between anti-slavery group and slavery owners and the tension between North and South.

    Uncle Tom’s Cabin published in 1852 was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best selling book besides the Bible. This anti-slavery novel was written by the American author Harriet Beecher. It influenced a great amount of people in the United States and was known as one of the causes of the Civil War. It increased the tension between North and South.

    John Brown was a abolitionist who initiated an armed slave revolt on Harper’s Ferry, Virginia. His raid was then suppressed by General Robert E. Lee. His crew was killed after few days and he was executed after being captured. His death caused more conflicts between the South and North and was seen as one of the cause of the American Civil War.
