    California is now a free state. The north is happy. Slave trade has been abolished in Washington DC. The north is angry because they think slavery should be abolished all together. New Mexico and Utah are voting if they will be a slave or free state. Texas dropped it's claim on the land north of the 32 parallel. The Fugitive Slave Act is strengthening.

    It is illegal to assist or hide any runaway slaves. This infuriates the north. Black men and women must now carry papers. The south calls this the bloodhound law. They start to kidnap blacks that are free. This all makes the north very angry.

    This novel is an anti slavery novel written in 1852.This novel was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe.According to Will Kaufman, this was "the most popular novel of our day".The south felt misrepresented and insulted by the booked so they banned it.The north was just horrified by all the stories and felt like they needed to do something about it.The north felt like this was a must read novel.

    Franklin Pierce was the son of a war hero and a good friend of Andrew Jackson. He was very depressed after hi son died. When he was president, he was hated by everyone. He was president when the Kansas Nebraska act happened. He was also in office when the transcontinental railroad was created.

    Dred Scott was a black slave and his wife once belonged to an army.Dred Scott dried to fight for black slaves to be citizens but unfortunately, he lost his case and black slaves even free colored people still were not considered citizens.

    Lincoln speaks against slavery. He does not like Douglas. Lincoln is a threat to the south. Lincoln told everyone that Douglas said he wanted all states to be slave states. This made Douglas angry.

    To the North, John Brown was a hero or a martyr. To the south, he was a terrorist. John Brown raided the arsenal, captured weapons, and tried to start an uprising in Harpers Ferry. The south captured him and hung him.

    Lincoln was the first republican to win an election. He beat John C. Breckinridge, John Bell, and Stephen Douglas. Lincoln was fighting against Douglas again but this time, Lincoln won. Lincoln was against slavery and he would put an end to it.
