Proposed by Henry Clay it admitted Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state.It also created an imaginary line to seperate free and slave states. The purpose of the comprimise was to keep the balance and peace between free and slave states. -

Wilmot Proviso
Made by David Wilmot the Wilmot Proviso was a document stating that neither slavery nor involentary servitude shall ever exist in any part of the territory which was the mexican cession. The reason the Wilmot Proviso was made was because people wanted to outlaw slavery in all parts of the mexican cession. -
DredScott V. Sanford
Was a court case where a slave by the name of Dred Scott sued for his freedom. This caused turmoil over whether slaves had the right to go to court. -
Comprimise of 1850
Henry clay presented a comprimise that allowed California enter as a free state and the rest of the Mexican Cession was split into Utah and New Mexico.This settled the problem of what to do with that territory. -
Fugitive Slave Act
This act affected all escaped slaves that escaped to free states by making it a crime to help runaway slaves. It also allowed officials to arrest those slaves in free areas. The reason for this act is because too many slaves were escaping their captivity. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Was an act that divided the rest of the louisianna purchase into Kansas and Nebraska. Then they let the people decide if they were going to be free or slave states. This settled disputes of where the transcontinintal railroad was go to pass. -
Bleeding Kansas
Fighting that broke out during the voting of kansas to be a free or slave state. The fighting was caused by the increased tensions between pro and anti slavery people. -
