    Missouri compromise
    The Missouri compromise was a deal put foreword by Henry Clay that Missouri would turn into a slave state and Maine will be turned into a free state. The compromise also made it so that new states above the 36th Parallel can not be slave states. The south were happy that they can make more slave states and the north was happy that they had more room to make free states.

    Wilmot Proviso
    David Proviso put out a bill called the Wilmot Proviso out to the congress which banned slavery in the newly acquired land in the west. Although the bill was blocked by the mostly southern dominate congress, it outraged the southerners that David Proviso even spoke about slavery inside the congress

    Nationalist President Zachary Taylor was Inaugurated on march 5th 1849. He was a general in the Mexican-American war and was from the south. He had slaves but didn't believe in the idea of having slaves, he also was against the compromise of 1850. He died later the next year from a stomach flu or cholera morbus in july 9th 1850

    The compromise of 1850 was a bill proposed by Henry Clay. The bill made California a free state, abolished slave trade in DC, let the Utah territory and the New Mexico territory be decide if its a free or slave state by popular sovereignty, strengthened the fugitive slave act. Northerners weren't happy because southerners are kidnapping black people in the north and Southerners weren't happy because California is a free state and slave trade was abolished in DC.

    The 13th President of the United States Millard Fillmore from the Whig party was inaugurated in July 10th 1850. Fillmore being the vice president of Zachary Taylor took office after the death of Taylor. Fillmore was from the north and was for the compromise of 1850, he though that the compromise will settle tensions in the north and south but he only worsen it. He also fired all of Zachary Taylor's cabinet and his party didn't nominate him for the next presidency

    The fugitive slave act was proposed within the Compromise of 1850, it allowed slave owners from the south to take back runaway slaves from the north. The south took advantage of this act and kidnapped any black person back to the south regardless if they were never slaves and at the time black people needed papers they were not slaves. The north was really mad about this act and how it allowed the south to kidnap any black person from the north.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin is a book published by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was about what she saw how slave owners treated there slaves. The north was horrified by the story and the book was a must have in the north, the south felt misrepresented by the story and banned the book in the south

    Democrat Franklin Pierce was inaugurated on march 4th 1853, he was a son of a revolutionary war hero and knew Andrew Jackson. He allowed slavery to go west and did nothing about the bleeding of Kansas. he later lost his party's nomination the next election.

    The Republican party was formed on march 20th 1854 in the north by anti-slavery activist like the Whigs. They held meetings in the north like in the one in Ripon Wisconsin. The south hated the republican party as it goes agents there believes.

    After the Kansas-Nebraska act was passed both the north and the south sent settlers to Kansas to make the state a free or a slave state, the south didn't have many people to settle there so they started attacking the people to scare them off of the land. The attacks or border raids later ended into being the bleeding of Kansas.

The south didn't like that he was talking about slavery so Preston Brooks beats Charles Sumner with cane. The south was proud that Preston stood up for them and the north is angry that Preston did that. overall there is more violence in congress.

    On 1857 Dred Scott sued his master for being a slaves on a free territory. Chief justice Taney tells Dred Scott that he is not a citizen and that he is property. This means that there can be slaves in a free state even though it can not be sold on a free state. the north are very angry at this case because it makes a free states not free.

    Democrat James Buchanan was the 15th president on the united states. he was a secretary of state before and he thought that the south had a right to own slaves. he also said that the supreme court would decide for him.

    the Lincoln-Douglas debates was a number speeches that Lincoln said to Douglas that he was part of a conspiracy to nationalize slavery. this is where his famous a house divide speech was taken place and the south started to notice Lincolns speeches. his speeches would go on until October 15th 1858

    in October 16 1859, John Brown raids an arsenal to capture weapons in the south. John Brown expected slaves and abolitionists to join in the uprising, but they did not, John was caught and hung for treason. in the north he was a hero but in the south he was a terrorist.
