After the death of Yuan, China was divided into smaller provinces controlled by warlords, who ran their lands independently, collected taxes, and had their own laws. -
The May Fourth Movement
Led by students, in response to the Treaty of Versasilles, it was a demonstration against the warlords, traditional cultural, and Japan.
This movement perceived Imperialism as the main problem in China.
