First President of China
On the year 1912, a political exile from the United States called Sun Yixian, was promoted to be the first president of China. But he did not accepted the position an agreed the contract with Yuan Shikai to make him president with the condition of the end of Manchu rule that was in China. It was official on February 12th. -
Yuan Shikai Rule
He (Yuan) intended to govern or rule China as a dictator but not as a democrat. On January 1914, Yuan Shikai dissolved the NA (National Assembly), (which was a revolutionary assembly conformed by the representatives of the Third State). Making himself president for the next 10 years, but he died before that ten years. -
Warlord Era
After Yuan Shikai not democracy government, China got separated into small provinces and states; those provinces and states, were under control of the warlords (they were leaders with different ambitions and in some causes with aims) and their own army. Also, they had their own currencies and their own laws. But no one was ready to give up his power or armies to the central government. -
Twenty One Demands
On the year 1915, one year after Yuan became the president of China; the japanese government, was not really happy about how Yuan govern as a democrat and not as a dictator, so they start with protests but Yuan present the Twenty-One Demands in order to stop the protests. Japanese ignored him and continue with the protests... -
May Fourth Movement
As the continue of the Twenty-One Demands protests, started the May Fourth Movement on the year 1919 by some students who led it with a mass demonstration against the warlords in Beijing. It took place at Versailles settlement and the purpose was to change, make the rebirth and make independent the nation of China. -
Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
After the death of Sun Yixian (1925), and the took over of the general Jiang Jieshi of the GMD Nationalist Party. The soviets think they could improve a better relation with China nationalist. Also, a new revolutionary party emerged (during warlord era), it was the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Officially in 1921, conformed by intellectuals, and they did not have any military strength.
Later; CCP, agreed to work with GMD and also cooperate with the nationalists by the Soviet Union (USSR). -
First United Front
In order to unify China and make it free of the imperialist powers; both parties, the GMD Nationalist Party and the CCP Party, they need to delete the warlords to get to that. That is why in 1922 they formed the First United Front. -
White Terror
Areas under the communists control, had seen the attacks of the peasants to the landlords and that would not be tolerated. CCP needed to be shattered before the real unify under the GMD Nationalist Party. So, Jiang, expelled all communists that were in the GMD. Those attacks to the communist, reached a limit in Shangai with the "White Terror" ( A workers army under Zhou Enlai (communist member of the GMD) attacks ); that was in April 1927, 5,000 communists died...
