Causes of the American Revolution

  • Period: to

    French and Indian war

    The war was over disputed land within the Ohio river Valley. The was was between the British and the French, but the Indians helped the French.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    An agreement that forbade anyone to pass the line that was drawn along the Appalachian mountains.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris put an end to the French and Indian war which resulted in to the French losing all claims of land in North America.
  • Sugar Act of 1763

    Also known as the American Revenue Act/Duties Act. This raised taxes on goods and such. The act was pass by Great Britain.
  • Currency Act of 1764

    Several acts that were passed by Great Britain. This was to insure that British Merchants and such would have British currency and not the colonial currency which was dropping.
  • Stamp Act

    Right after the Currency Act, but this made a direct tax on the colonies. The colonies needed a stamp on printed materials, and that stamp had to come from London.
  • Quartering Act

    The act was passed by the British Parliament to give their soldiers more sustainability. The colonies had to hose the soldiers in barracks to make up for the safety the soldiers provided.
  • Sons and Daughters of Liberty

    A group of American Patriots that dislike the tyranny that was going froth at the time. The did all type of activities ranging from public speaking , to ransacking elected officials houses.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act took back the Stamp act of 1765, and made changes to the Sugar act of 1764. This was to prevent some some of the boycotts and to keep everything and everyone in check.
  • Townshend Act

    This act was made to keep the governors and judges loyal to Britain. The act increased taxes so the taxes alone could pay the salaries of the elected. Another way to punish the colonies for their disobedience.
  • Boston Massacre

    A Massacre that ended with 5 American Patriots slaughtered by British guards, because they weren't fond of the current setting and situation so they taunted the guards and such.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    A secret government whom were the Patriot leaders of the thirteen colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A political protest which was led by the Sons of Liberty, some disguised as Native Americans and boarded the ships and threw out crates of tea into the water.
  • Intolerable Acts

    A series of Acts that were sent upon the Massachusetts colony for their disobedience and to what happened during the Boston Tea party. These acts took away their self governing.
  • Lexington and Concord

    This was the first battle of the American Revolutionary War.
  • Second Continental Congress

    A convention of delegates who met up after the beginning of the American Revolution. This took place in Philadelphia.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine and it was advocating independence from Great Britain.
