Strict Enforcement of Navigation Acts
In 1763 Britain sent soldiers to enforce the Navigation Acts more strictly. These acts said that any goods imported to the colonies had to go through England. Sugar Act

Currency Act

Stamp Act

Sons of Liberty begin forming
Around early summer in 1765, groups made up of mostly wealthy colonists began to form the Sons of Liberty. Stamp Act Congress

Townshend Acts
Placed duties, or import taxes, on items like glass, paper, paint, lead, and tea. The duties needed to be paid in gold or silver. Writs of Assistance Affirmed
The Townshend Acts also made it clear that Writs of Assistance were legal in the colonies. Boston Massacre
Rising tensions finally caused the disagreements between the colonists and Britain to become violent. On this date, colonists provoked British soldiers to fire into a crowd of unarmed colonial citizens, killing five people.
