Causes of the American Revolution

  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    This is a war over the Ohio River Valley between the British and French. The French had control over the Ohio River Valley but the British wanted control over the Ohio River Valley for cheap, fertile farmland. George Washington ended up taking the first shot of the war and battles ensued afterwards. After 7 years of a international conflict the British wins the war. Because they won that took over the Ohio River Valley and most of the land in North America.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    Committees of Correspondence
    The Committees of Correspondence ended in 1770. The leaders was a Samuel Adams. The sons of liberty formed the Committees of Correspondence. Many more formed later.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation was issued on October 7 1763 by King George III. The proclamation stated that the Appalachian Mountains were going to be the physical border that separated the Colonists from the Natives in the West. A war between the Natives and American colonists could cause conflict which they could not afford.

    The Stamp Act required that a stamp purchased from the British government be placed on all important documents such as court papers, pamphlets, newspapers, and even playing cards. This special stamp showed that the tax had been paid on the paper item.

    The colonist attacked the solders. The colonist called them lobster backs . If the colonist had not pushed them 5 lives would have lived. The colonist were instating the British saying "fire." They were also throwing snow balls at the British, and threatening to hit them with clubs. The colonist also srowned the British threatening to hit them and yelling "fire".

    The tax was made to help east India company and raise money. December 16 1773 60 colonist dressed as Indians and thew 342 crates of tea in to the harbor. The colonist were ferrous with the British and this is them saying that this is there punishment.

    The English government was furious about the Boston Tea Party. To punish the colonist the British made a act called the Coercive Acts. The colonist renamed the Coercive Act to the Intolerable act because it was Intolerable.

    This act relied colonist tom pay a 3 cent tax on refined sugar. it increased the existing tax on coffee,indigo,certon kinds of wine,and rum. They were not mad at the Sugar Act they were mad because they do not have any say in government.

    The leaders were George Washington, John Adams, and many others. It was held at the Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They urged the colonist to boycott all British goods if the Coercive Act did not stop.

    The captain said on the fled "stand your ground, do not fire unless fired upon but if they mean they mean war let it begin here''. Then ''the shot heard around the world'' went off. At the end the colonist won.
