  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was declared at the end of the French and Indian war. The purpose of this was to try and ease tensions with the Native Americans. As a result of the proclamation, it closed down the colonial expansion beyond the Appalachian Mountains.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was created to try and pay for the French and Indian war. This act made it so items such as sugar, molasses, and other products that were imported by non British sources were highly taxed. This act however was not successful and failed hard, because the colonists did not want to pay taxes without representation or having someone represent what they were feeling.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed in 1765 by the British parliament. This tax made it so people were required to pay a tax on every printed piece of paper they used, for example newspapers, licenses, playing cards and much more. In the end, the act was repealed and the colonists abandoned the ban they put on British imported goods.

    Stamp Act Repealed
    The risky law passed by Parliament got repealed after several months of protesting and boycotts. The boycotting badly damaged the British trade, which is why the law was repealed. However, the same day, the Declaratory Act was passed.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act was made to help pay for the expenses involved with governing colonies. This act raised taxes for simple things such as glass, lead, paper, and tea. The colonists didn't like this act, so they decided against the purchase of British imports.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a fight that broke out into the streets because the colonists were upset and tired of being unfairly taxed. They took their anger out on the troops by throwing sticks, stones, and snowballs at them. The troops got fed up and started firing at the colonists, resulting in eight people getting shot and five dying.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest lead by about 60 American colonists. The protest itself was an act against the overtaxing going on. During the protest, 342 chests got thrown into the Boston Harbor to try and prove a point.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were a plethora of laws that got passed by the British Parliament to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The four acts were The Boston Port Bill, The Massachusetts Government Act, The Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act. As a result of the acts, the Boston Harbor got shut down and a plethora of other things happened.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Lexington and Concord was the start of the American War of Independence. Colonists resisted British authority, as well as outnumbering and fighting the redcoats. The colonists won.
  • British Attacks on Coastal Towns

    British Attacks on Coastal Towns
    In late 1775, the British were raiding coastal towns. This led to a decline in the relationship of Great Britain and the American Colonies. On October 18th, the town of Falmouth got raided and burnt by the British.
