Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 made sure that people couldn't settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The Proclamation of 1763 was signed by King George. This also required all the settlements west of the Appalachian to return east. -
Sugar act
The Sugar Act was passed by the Parliament. This act was used to pay for the war debts from the French and Indian War. This also was to help pay for the colonies newly acquired territories. This increased the duties on textiles, coffee wines, and indigo. -
The Stamp Act
This was the first act directed towards the colonies. The parliament passed this tax that was paid directly to England. This affected the cost of printed materials, newspapers, pamphlets, bills, etc. -
Quartering Act
The British started making more horrible Acts including this one. This made people have to house soldiers in their homes. So people who house soldiers have to provide food for them, and this will not end well. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre isn't as bad as it sounds even tho it had a big impact on the colonist. Colonists were throwing stuff at the soldiers and they fired at them. Three men were killed instantly, and mortally wounded two others and injuring six others. -
Townshend Act
In 1774 the English parliament passed the Townshend Act. This taxed imports such as paper, tea, glass, lead, and paints. This established a colonial board of customs comminishers in Boston. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of men called the "Sons of Liberty" went to Boston Harbor. These men were disguised as mohawk indians. The group boarded a ship and dumped 45 tons of tea in the Boston Harbor. -
Boston Port Act
This act closed the port of Boston in 1774 until the price of dumped tea was recovered. This Act moved the capital from Boston to Salem. This also made Marble Head the official port for ships to enter Massachusetts. -
Massachusetts Regulating Act
This law changed a lot in the colonies. This made all law officers subject to appointment by the royal governor. This also banned all town meetings if didn't have the approval of the royal minister. -
Impartial administration of justice act
This act allowed the royal governor of a colony to move trials to other colonies. He could even get a trial in England if he feared that juries in those colonies wouldn't judge a case fairly. This means that whichever place your trial is in it is going to go good or bad. If you were in England you most likely would be put in jail. If you were in the colonies you would be set off free. -
Quebec Act
The Quebec Act made a huge difference in the society. This act granted a civil government. This act also grants freedoms to Catholics living in Quebec.
