Causes of Revolutionary War

  • French & Indian War

    Some know it as the Seven Year War, was fought over conflicting territorial claims. The British won and this resulted in territorial expansion and taxing.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act forced Americans to buy tax stamps for any or all printed documents.
  • Townshend Acts

    This act made it so a new set of taxes was created in demand of glass, lead, paint, paper and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    An American patriot was harassing a Redcoat named John Goldfinch who was standing guard. Eventually another nearby Redcoat named Hugh White came to defend John. White became annoyed and struck the man in the face, the Bostonians came to the mans aid and soon turned into an angry mob. British Captain Thomas Preston tried to solve the problem peacefully but as the crowd grew harder to contain, he had no choice.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A bunch of guys dressed up like Indians and pushed tea crates off of the British ship the Dartmouth in response to the tea taxes.
  • First Continental Congress

    A group of people didn't like how the British was treating them so they came together and made The Declaration of Rights.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress made decisions like the production of paper money and made Benjamin Franklin Postmaster General. Most importantly, it authorized the creation of the Continental Army and George Washington as Commander-in-Chief.
  • Thomas Paine and Common Sense

    Thomas Paine was a guy who after the death of his wife went through several jobs before ending up in politics. He published his first political work, known as The Case of the Officers of Excise, which championed better pay and working conditions for tax collectors.
