-Debates were had if the new territories won would go to the free or the slave states
-California became a free state
-The rest of the new territory couldn't have slavery be banned -
Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
-The Fugitive Slave act stated that escaped slaves in the North could be captured and brought back to their owner
-This law made Abolitionists angry -
Bleeding Kansas
-5000 proslavery came to Kansas and voted illegally
-Because of that, Anti-slavery made their own government
-Anti-slavery were attacked which led to John Brown attacking proslavery -
Dred Scott Decision
-Dred Scott was a slave that sued his owner for his freedom
-He moved up in court until he was shut down by being told that he was property -
Attack on Harpers Ferry
-John Brown wanted to inspire slaves to fight for their freedom
-Brown and his men went and fought, but no one else came
-All of them were captured, and John Brown was hung -
The Election of 1860
-Abraham Lincoln won this election
-Seceding begins in the southern states after this election
