French And Indian War
A feud began between France and Britain in North America over The Ohio River Valley. French already had ownership, but Governor Dinwiddle demanded the French to leave. Soon after, George Washington took the first shot of what became the 7 year war. The British ended up winning the seven year war. When the French and Indian war is over, The Proclamation of 1763 begins. The French and Indian war began because both the French and Indian's wanted access to the Ohio River Valley for fur-trading. -
The Proclamation Line Of 1763
Following the French and Indian war, the British create a physical border, the Appalachian Mountains, that separates the colonists from the newly won territory. The British were trying to avoid another war, because they were in debt and can't afford another war. This happened do the colonists would not go over the West Line and began another feud. -
The Sugar Act
This act required colonists to pay a three cent tax on foreign sugar. This was the first direct tax that the Parliament imposed on the American colonies. The colonists were very upset about this new taxation on foreign sugar, and their reactions were tremendous. Some colonies had an epiphany because they refused to pay a tax on sugar, just because it's foreign. The colonists created a slogan "No Taxation Without Representation". -
The Stamp Act
After the French and Indian war, England sent troops to protect their newly won territory from the Native American attacks and to prevent the French from reclaiming the land they lost. Tax was put on important paper documents. The stamp showed that the tax was paid on that item. The Parliament repealed the act in March of 1766. This happened as an attempt on Britain to reduce their country's national debt. -
Townshend Acts
These laws were designed to not tax colonists, but to show England had power. This act placed tax on paper, glass, paint, and tea. Colonists were very mad and reacted very violently and viscous. Although the colonists reactions differed, they all still reacted in the same way, somehow. This happened so England could show the colonists that they had power, and the colonists couldn't defeat them. -
Boston Massacre
Tensions with England and the American Colonies were very high. Colonists threatened soldiers. Colonists used the following as weapons: snowballs, sticks, stones, and clubs. Colonists called the soldiers "lobster backs". One soldier got shot and immediately fired his gun, not knowing if it was purposely or accidentally. The Boston Massacre happened because of the high tensions with England and the American Colonists. The Boston Massacre was a bloody mess, and will never be forgotten. -
Committees Of Correspondence
Samuel Adams founded the first Committees of Correspondence. The aim of the Committees was to share information about each new issue faced during the crisis of England. The first of the American Colonies was to maintain communication with one another. This happened for the reason of communication. -
The Boston Tea Party
Not created to tax colonists, but to help a West Indian Company. The company still had eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. Colonists reactions differed. The colonists in New York along with Philadelphia refused the ships and sent them back to England. Colonists in Charles Town let the tea rot out on the ship docks. And the colonists in Boston prevented the ships from unloading. Some people find the Boston Tea Party funny, some people find it mean, other people don't know what to think of it. -
Coercive Act (Intolerable)
The British Parliament closed stores which caused people to have no food, loss of jobs, and no trading. Soldiers felt free to abuse colonists, knowing that they wouldn't have to face Justice. The Colonists had to pay and feed troops! Some people thought that the colonists paying and feeding troops was funny, and every time they hear about it they might laugh or giggle. The Coercive Acts were not a joke! They happened because they were upset of the Boston tea party, and to outrage colonists. -
The First Continental Congress
Men would meet at the Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The men would discuss issues with the crisis in England. Just because they do this, doesn't mean they aren't still loyal to King George lll. They really WERE still loyal to to King George lll and England. This happened to show that the men wanted to know about the England crisis, but to also show that they were still loyal to King George Washington lll and England. -
Battles Of Lexington And Concord
Sixty militia men lined up for the battle to begin. Nobody knows who fired the first shot. The first shot was called "The Shot Heard All Around The World". After the first shot was fired, more than one thousand militia men arrived because they heard the shot and they knew they were suppose to ho fight to help. Militia men were suppose to be ready to fight no matter where, and no matter time. The Battle happened because of conflicts with Britain. and the American Colonists.
