Convention of 1833
Stephen F. Austin went to San Antonio to gain their support for the resolutions passed in 1832. Meanwhile inpatient Texans called another convention on April 1, 1833. -
Austin is arrested
Stephen F. Austin went to deliver the resolutions from the convention of 1833 to Mexican Officials. He still had not met with the president and was frustrated. He wrote a letter to Texans to begin organizing a state government. Santa Anna would not agree to separate Texas from Coahuila. Austin was arrested and taken back to Mexico City, we're he was held captive for over a year. -
The Consultation
In 1834 Santa Anna said that Mexico was not yet ready for a Republic, and strengthen the power of the central government. This frightened Texans and another convention was held on October 15 1835 at Washington on the Brazos. -
Convention of 1836
On March 1, 1836 Texans gathered at WotB for second time. 59 men decided to declare independence from Mexico and draft a constitution for the independent republic of Texas.The Texas Declaration of independence closely resembled its US counterpart.
