Forms Commission for Russia's Laws
She created the Nakaz document which suggested allowing religious toleration, abolishing torture, and abolishing capital punishment. Catherine met with the Legislative Comission to express her ideas. No new laws were made from this, but the Nakaz became well known for its ideas. -
Battled With Ottoman Turks for Black Sea
Russia battled with the Turkish people for the northern shore of the Black Sea. After numerous victories, a peace treaty was signed in 1774. -
Expands Into Poland
Along with Prussia and Austria, Catherine took part in the First Partition of Poland. Parts of Poland were given split up and given to the three different surrounding countries. -
Serfs Uprise
She made various reforms, but none to help out the peasants and serfs. This led to the serfs uprising. -
Treaty With Ottomans is Broken
Gregory Potemkin, Catherine's new partner, encouraged her to take over the Crimea Peninsula in 1783. The battles resumed against the Ottomans in 1787 and ended in 1792. -
Rest of Poland is Taken Over
Austria and Russia divided up what was left of Poland and claimed. -
