Capstone Timeline

  • Conception

    Conception
    Germinal Period- one-celled zygote divides and becomes biastocyst Embryonic Period- Development of body features and
    major systems Fetal Period- Rapid growth of all organ systems Activities- will feel fetus moving in the stomach, will give birth at the end of the stage
  • Newborn

    Newborn
    Physical- gains about 4-8 oz a week, grows 1-1.5 inches in first month Intellectual- ability to think, begins to remember familiar faces Emotional- express feelings through sounds and facial expressions, tries to mimic Social- forms the foundation of speech, sensory skills develop Activities- Sleeps most of the time, learns to hold head up and sit up straight
  • Toddler (1-2)

    Toddler (1-2)
    Physical- can walk without assistance, can use muscles to do things Intellectual- develops object permanence, begins to use words to communicate Emotional- starts to bond with the people who care for them, creates a sense of security Social- begins to learn to play with other children, remember faces and names Activities- will explore around, may share toys while playing with other children
  • Preschool (3-5)

    Preschool (3-5)
    Physical- Motor skills develops, large muscles start to form before smaller ones Intellectual- memory emerge, reasoning skills form Emotional- by age 5, they can control their impulses and regulate their emotions Social- language skills form, tend to stay by their parents side Activities- play with toys that help develop problem-solving skills, etc., like to play games outside with other children
  • Middle childhood ( 6-10)

    Middle childhood ( 6-10)
    Physical- develops a sense of balance, learns to play certain activities (hitting baseballs,etc) Intellectual- develops a more mature way of thinking, able to consider several parts of a situation Emotional- tend to be demanding and bossy, often enthusiastic about life Social- capable of forming sustained friendships, enjoy participating in team activities Activities- enters elementary school, forms friendships with classmates
  • Adolescence (11-19)

    Adolescence (11-19)
    Physical- hormones are secreted in the puberty gland, bodies begin to grow Intellectual-able to imagine and think about things they have never seen or done before,can solve problems Emotional- hormones may be out of balance, mood swings and aggressiveness may occur Social- become increasingly independent of their families, become more dependent on their friends Activities- Forms relationships with others (dating). By the end of this stage, he/she would be a high school graduate.
  • Early Adulthood (20-39)

    Early Adulthood (20-39)
    Physical- Growth of body is at its peak, muscles continue to gain mass Intellectual- become more independent, can solve complex problems Emotional- seek to form intimate relationships, concerned about major depression diagnosis Social- socializes more with others, spends most of their time in the educational system Activities- May graduate college, get married with their partner
  • Middle Adulthood (40- 65)

    Middle Adulthood (40-  65)
    Physical- capabilities begin to decline, wrinkles appear Intellectual- memory may not be as quick, more knowledgeable Emotional- confused emotions, period of hormonal changes Social- may expand social development, less responsibility of kids--more for themselves. Activities- Some may go back to school to study more, go out and be more socialite with friends
  • Older Adulthood (66-100)

    Older Adulthood (66-100)
    Physical- muscles and bones become weaker, elasticity of skin decreases Intellectual- less able to solve problems, development of wisdom Emotional- main sense is to keep their self-esteem, good manner of behavior Social-they will take their norms and beliefs into more consideration, tend to have relationships with others the same age Activities- 10 hours or more each day sitting or lying down,playing with the grandchildren
