    Magna Carta
    Drafted to make peace between King John of England and a group of rebel barons. It promised protection of the church rights, protection for the barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, to be implemented through a council of 25 barons.
  • Petition of Rights

    Petition of Rights
    Sets out specific liberties of the subject that the king is prohibited from infringing.Parliament refused to grant subsidies to support the war effort, leading to Charles gathering "forced loans" without Parliamentary approval and arbitrarily imprisoning those who refused to pay.

    British army soldiers killed five male civilians and injured six others. A mob formed and the troops shot at them

    The demonstrators destroyed an entire shipment of tea sent by the East India Company.It was in defiance of the Tea Act of May 10th, 1773.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies that met on September 5 to October 26, 1774 at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.It was called in response to "The passage of the Coercive Acts" (also known as Intolerable Acts by the Colonial Americans) by the British Parliament. The Intolerable Acts had punished Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party.

    The murder of the public speaker who spoke for the freedom of blacks was shocking around the world. His speeches and his murder helped propel the freedom of blacks and their ability to be treated equally.
