Assassination of Franz Ferdinard
Archduke Franz Ferdinard and his wife were assasinated in Serbia by a Serbian terrorist. The following events occured afterwards:
Austria-Hungary demanded that Serbia give up Bosnia. Serbia refused. Then, Austria - Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia declared war on Austria - Hungary, Germany declared war on Russia and the British Empire and France declared war on Germany. Thus, creating World War 1. -
Battle of Ypres II
This was the first time Germany used poison gas on the Western Front in the first World War. It was also the first time Canadians pushed back the Germans on their own European terrain. -

Treaty of Versailes
This was one of the peace treaties signed in World War I. It ended the war between Germany and the Allies. It was signed five years after the assassination of Franz Ferdinard. In 1918, the Armstice ended the fighting it took six months of negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference. -
Start of World War II
This war was a global military conflict lasting until 1945. This involved most of the world's nations, eventually forming two opposing military forces. It was the most widespread war on history with more than 100 million military personnel. The major participants of the war placed their economic, industrial and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort. There was a mass death of civilians including the Holocaust and nuclear weapons. -

Victory in Europe Day
This was the date when the World War II allies accepted the surrender of the Nazi Germany forces and the end of Hitler's Third Reich. On the 30th of April, Hitler committed suicide during the Battle of Berlin, so the Germans were forced to surrender.
