    War Measures Act of 1914
    The War measures act of 1914 allowed the government to suspend civil liberties including mass arrests if they believed the citizens were working for the opposition's forces. They were allowed to turn any factories into munitions factories. Anyone that migrated from countries they were at war with and put in internment camps.

    Months before the election, Robert Borden introduced 2 bills that would stack the vote for the union side. One bill would allow all soldiers to vote with a previous bill and wartime voting. The second gave women the right to vote only if they had a spouse or family member in the armed forces.

    The election of 1917 was one of life and death. This is because this election was more about conscription than anything else. Conservative PM Ropert Borden created the unionist side to attempt to pass the MSA act however he did not have enough support to pass it which caused him to call an election.

    The spanish flu of 1918 was a pandemic that brought social and economic change to canada. During the pandemic in an attempt to stop the spread municipal governments closed all non essential business, provincial governments made masks mandatory and enforced self quarantine. This also led to the forming of the federal department of health in 1919.

    The Treaty of Versailles was an important step in Canada gaining independence from the british empire this is because canada signed the Treaty of Versailles as its own country and not under the british empire. However the signature was looked at as the signature for the brits. later on in 1931 the statute of westminster let canada determine their own external affairs

    The league of nations was a group that was formed after the first world war. It was formed by 42 countries, one of them being canada. This was another big step for canadian independence however it was still not technically an independent country within is why it did not like the clause that said is one country fought all had to this is because it feared britain would drag it into war again.
  • Agnes Macphail

    Agnes Macphail
    Agnes Macphail was the first woman elected to the canada parliament. She was a champion for farmers and for prison reform and immigrants. She was not met nicely in politics and was often attacked and ridiculed however she never backed down. she fought for farmers because she came from a farming family
  • King–Byng affair of 1926

    King–Byng affair of 1926
    This affair started off with customs officials taking bribes and allowed US Rum to come into canada. This turned into the King-Byng affair because PM King had won an election but it was a minority government. In 1926 he called an election however Governor General rejected this and PM King railed against Byng for rejecting the advice of an elected leader.
