Upper Canada became the first province of the British Empire to abolish slavery which led to Black Americans being accepted on their land safely, without the threat of unjust treatment they received in the South. In the future African American people will constantly escaping their harsh homes in the United Stated for Canada. -

In this year, many Polish people came to Canada to flee the oppression in Russia. -

During this time, African American people used the chain of safe-houses and passageways known as the "Underground Railroad" to escape slavery in America and come to Canada.

The Great Famine (Ireland)
The Great Famine was a time period in Ireland when their potato crops were infected by disease putting the whole country into a massive famine where 1 million people died and 1 million people were forced to emmigrate, over 100,000 went to Canada

Mass Migration of Poles
This marks the start of the mass migration of Polish people escaping Prussian occupation in Northern Poland. The picture I have chosen is the logo for the group, called the Kashubs (Kaszebe), of immigrants that came to Canada in 1858 and when they celebrated their 150th anniversary in 2008. -
