After Champlain's founding of Quebec City in 1608, it became the capital of New France. -
Daughters of the King
Indentured servants and soldiers were sent to Canada along with young orphan girls to marry and populate New France becase there was few women there. -
Battle of the Plains of Abraham
The Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1775 led to the British taking control over what was New France and leading to a population of British people living in central Canada. -

The Underground railroad was a network of secret passage ways that help smuggle slaves to safety in Canada. -

When the American Revolution ended in 1783 many British loyalists left America to come and live in Canada. -

In the 1800's people in many parts of the world decided to leave their homes and immigrate to Canada. Do to crop failure, famine and other reasons. -

The Great Migration
Ireland farmers had a great potato famine which causes them to leave Ireland and immigrate to Canada. Scotish people had to leave because they lost their homes due to the need for space for their sheep. Also British soliders moved to Canada because there was no war at the time so they needed jobs. -

North West Rebellion
Immigration briefly ceased to the West during the North West Rebellion of 1885 -
Candian Pacific Railway
in the 1880's, Chinese people had come to Canada to help build the Canadian Pacific Railway. Following this many Chinese began to move eastward, establishing Chinatowns in several of the larger Canadian cities. -
Immigration Act of 1906
In 1906 the new immigration act declares that you can no longer enter Canada for free. -
