Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated causing Austria-Hungary to decalre war on Serbia. Once war was declared, alliances got together and were forced to fighting leading Canada to war also. -

Canada entered World War 1 because they were in the British Empire and since Britain was at war due to the violation of the Neutrality of Belgium agreement. Canada was not involved in the declaring of war, they were basically forced due to their allies. -
Battle of Ypres
British and German battle at the "Race to Sea" -
Second Battle of Ypres
Many Canadian troops and French troops were injured and killed during this battle. This battle was the first where tear gas was used and it did not react well with the soldiers. This battle was very gruesome because new factors were being introduced and used as a form of attack. -
Battle of Somme
Allies attaked German Trenches. Canada was not directly involved because they were more under the radar during this battle, meaning they were only involved with certain attacks and assaults that went on. -
Military Service Act Passed
Act passed that made conscription mandatory of Canadian males. Many did not agree with this law because they did not feel directly in battle in war. They felt that it was Britians role to fight in this war because it was their own battle. -
War Ended
War had ended and many made agreements of peace that would work for now. Canada was being noticed as their own country and things were shaping up. -
Paris Peace Conference
A peace agreement formed by the allies. Canada gained a seat in this conference because they were highly involved in a war that was not even their own battle. In a way, Canada was being noticed. -
Treaty of Versailles
Treaty Germany was to sign to maintain peace. Since the peace conference, Canada was still becoming more and more noticed.
