The time in between World War One and World War Two -
Treaty of Versailles signed
This treaty formally ended World War One, after Germany surrendered in 1918. It was signed by the Allied Nations and Germany. -
Prohibition commences
A law made by the government that makes it illegal to buy or sell alcohol. It was one of the first laws that women helped pass, because of the violence it caused. As well as taking needed wheat for food and making alcohol instead. But, it also caused consequences such as people making money from selling it illegally -
First League of Nations meeting held
The League of nations was an international group of countries that aimed to solve problems between countries before war begun. Their first meeting was in Paris, and later fell apart in the 1930s. -
Indian Act Amended
The Indian Act was amended from its original act. So, it made it so the government has less control over the aboriginal people and also gave them the right to vote. -
Women vote for the first time after war
During the war, women who related to those fighting in the war were allowed to vote. But, this was the first time after the war that every woman was able to vote. -
Insulin and Dr. Frederick Banting
Banting was developing a way to treat patients that had diabetes with insulin. On this day, they tested it on their patient, and had success. -
Chinese Immigration act
Unless under "special circumstances", Chinese people weren't allowed to immigrate or enter Canada. This was done because Chinese people were still coming to Canada, even through the head tax. -
Royal Canadian Air Force is formed
The RCAF, otherwise known as the Royal Canadian Air Force is formed. Before, all pilots during the war went with the British Air Force, but now Canadians had their own. -
The imperial conference
Their was another imperial conference held, but this time the Dominions of Britain, including Canada, were given autonomy. This means they could now represent themselves and were officially independent. -
Lindbergh’s flight
Charles Lindbergh was a pilot during this time, and he then decided he want to be the first person to successfully fly across the Atlantic Ocean. He also had to do it non-stop, and solo, and he was successful. -
Summer Olympics
These summer olympics took place in Amsterdam, July 28th - August 12th. Women competed in Track and Field for the first time, and Canadians took home medals. -
Black Tuesday
On October 29th, 1929, the stock market crashed when 16 million stocks were traded. This is what started a recession, which then turned into the Great Depression, which lasted for a decade. -

Co-operative Commonwealth Federation Formed
The CCF was formed to help the suffering Canadians. They wanted to help those that need it the most, like elderly, the ill, farmers etc. This was especially helpful during the Great Depression. -
Hitler becomes the chancellor of Germany
This was part of the many steps in Hitler's rise to power. One year later he became the leader, or the Fuhrer, and made many promises to his people. -
On-To-Ottawa trek
A rail trek from Vancouver to Ottawa in 1935. The unemployed men protested the conditions relief camps and employment. -
Mackenzie King gets re-elected again
Mackenzie King, who was already prime minister twice before was taken out of power by Bennet in the previous election. But in the 1936 election, King comes back into power. -
Trans-Canada airlines created
This was the airline before Air Canada, and came from the same place as the CNR. In September of 1937, the same year, flights began regularly. -
Anschluss
German troops go to Austria, and take over the country, also called annexation. -
Germany takes Poland
Just like Austria, Germany takes over Poland and annexes it. In case he dies, Hitler chooses his successors. -
World War Two starts
Britain is already at war with Germany, but on this day in history, Canada decides to join the fight and declare war on Germany.
