The Colombo Plan was created in the Commonwealth confrince by foreign ministers that was held in Colombo. The plan brought nations in Asia and pacific regions closer together through forign aid. Canada was one of the founding members in 1950. -
Avro Arrow
The Avro Arrow was a supersonic specialy designed plane designed to protect against the threat of Soviet bombers attacking North America over the Artic. Due to risking cost and lack of market willing to buy the plane the project was cancelled on Febuary 20th 1959. -

Egypt wanted to have a Dam on the Suez Cannal. brittan and U.S tick off Egypt and The Soviet Union, causing threats of a nuklear war. Hearing this Canada finally steps in on a peacekeeping mission. Canada's forign minister Lester Pearson persuades the World Assembly to make the UN force a reality bringing many different forces together as one. -

The Hungarian Revolution was a revolt on the Republic of Hungary and its communist government. The revolution was successful and fighting stoped. as a result of this many people immagrated to Canada and other countrys. -

contructed in secret during the night, the Berlin wall was a massive wall built to keep east Germans in communist east, and west Germans in non-communist west, The west was split up between U.S, Brittan, and France, and the east soviets. Both sides living a totally differant lifestyles. the fall of the Berlin wall is the end of the Cold war in 1989 as east Germans escape to the west side of the wall. Then they eventualy took it down for border openings. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis is when the soviets decided to put nuclear weapons in Cuba, even though the U.S told them not too. So the U.S said get rid of them or we will have a nuclear war. This is the closest the world has ever been to having a nuclear war, after much tension e conflict was resolved and Khrushchev removed the missile installations. -
Peacekeeping-Cyprus
in 1964, Canadian peacekeepers began their mission on the island of Cyprus. The canadians served in Cyprus and approximately 125 canadians died out of 25000 Canadian forces that went in. Overall Canada was involved for 29 years. -

The Summit Series is the first time Canadian and Soviet professional hockey teams played against each other. Canada won the eight game series with 4 games to 3 with one tie, after these series Canada and the Soviets earned some respect for one another. -
Nicaraguan
in 1979, a revolution took place in Nicaragua opposing to their dicatorship. This was lead by the Sandinista National Liberation Front , or FSLN and lead to the eventual violent ousting of the Somoza government in 1979. As a result of this over 10000 Nicaraguan's immigrated to Canada. -

The 1980 summer olympic games held in Russia were boycotted. the boycott occured because of the Soviet invasion of Afganistan. -
Gorbachev's Revolution
In March 1985, Gorbachev came to power of the USSR. He started the political and sovial "revolution". This allowed for things such as giving citizens of the USSR mor efreedom than they previously had.
