  • Paris Peace Conference

    Paris Peace Conference
The purpose of the Paris Peace Conference was to establish the terms of peace after the First World War. Thiry Nations participated but Great Britain, France, United States and Italy were the four that took over the most. Canada didnt participate much in the actual writing of the peace treaty but their involvement insured people that they were independent and made their own decisions.
  • The Chanak Crisis

    Picture
British and French troops were attacked by the Turkish. Knowing that the Turkish armies had recently defeated Greek forces the British called for allies. They demanded that Canada come and help them out of this prediciment. The Prime Minister stated that Canada was its own country and would not run off to war just because Britian is attacked. The government showed that they wont be told what to do anymore.
  • The Halibut Treaty

<ahref='http://http://www.historylink.org/db_images/halibut_worker_1920s.jpg' >Picture</a>The Halibut Treaty was formed between Canada and America in order to preserve the Pacific halibut. It had been declining severly and would soon die out if they didnt do anything to stop it. They decided that they would have a closed season that they would be able to repopulate. This was a very important moment for Canada because it was its first treaty being independent of Britain. Britain attempted to sign with Canada but the prime minister said no and eventually Britain backed off.
  • The King-Byng Crisis

The King-Byng Crisis occured when Governor General of Canada (Lord Byngy) refused a request made by Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. This redefined the roles of the Governor General in Canada and through many different Dominions. The Governor General was traditionally supposed to stay out of political affairs.
  • The Balfour Report

In 1926 Britain stated that the United Kingdom and all of its Dominions were apart of the British Empire. They were all equal and associated with the British Commonwelath of Nations. Britain waned to underpin the self governing Domions. These documents were one of the last steps on the path of Canada completing autonomy.
  • The Statute of Westminster

The last impurial act of Parliment towards all of the Dominions. In this act it granted Canada, Newfoundland, New Zealand, Austrailia and the Union of South Africa whatever independence they wanted. Canada was now offically a free country able to do whatever they wanted with their lands and live the lives they dreamed of!
